I WOULD LIKE TO ENGAGE WITH LEGACY MARINE TO SELL BOATS - IS THIS AN OPTION?

The current Legacy Marine distribution model allows for differing levels of representation.

Experience has proven that each Legacy Marine business partner has unique service and industry requirements which are considered on a case by case basis.

Generally, Legacy Marine interacts with its sales family by means of four options, each option catering for its own unique requirements.

The different distribution options provided off our website sets out a general overview of the requirements for each option and may be altered depending on the specific requirements of each sales partner.

 

WHAT MARKET SEGMENTS DO LEGACY MARINE COVER?

The versatility and design of Legacy Marine vessels allow us to service most of the marine market segments/ industries including: Governmental, Tourism, Transportation, Leisure, Aquaculture, Extraction, Environmental and Health to name a few.

 

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATIONS FOR THE LEGACY MARINE PRODUCTS?

Our vessels are very popular with Commercial Operators and are used extensively as displayed on the following websites within their respective application pages.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT SALES MECHANISMS I CAN CONSIDER?

The four categories of representation which Legacy Marine uses to distribute products and services throughout the international marine industry are:

  •    Legacy Marine Authorised Agents
  •    Legacy Marine Exclusive Distributors
  •    Legacy Marine Non-Exclusive Distributors / Resellers
  •    Marine Brokers or Brokerages

 

WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE CATEGORIES?

 

Overview Descriptions

Agent:

An appointed Agent introduces new leads or sales opportunities to Legacy Marine, generated through the Agent’s direct sales input and sales effort in a specific territory.  Legacy Marine will then interact directly with the introduced client to follow up the lead. A suitable Agents Commission Structure is provided to compensate the Agent once a paid for sale is generated from the lead provided. 

Distributors: 

Distributors fall into two categories (Exclusive and Non-Exclusive) and are regarded as re-sellers who purchase products from Legacy Marine at preferential sale terms and then re-sell these to a third party.

Exclusive Distributor:

Exclusive Distributors are appointed to a specific industry and/or territory in which to sell Legacy Marine products. All sales enquiries in such areas are channelled through the Exclusive Distributor who is required to hold product in stock and provide qualified service facilities, technical support and sound local infrastructure to prospective clients. 

Non-Exclusive Distributor:

A Non-Exclusive Distributor is a re-seller of our products and is appointed to an industry and/or territory. A Non-Exclusive Distributor is not required to carry stock nor will it have any exclusivity rights and hence may be required to work through an appointed Exclusive Distributor in the appointed industry or territory.

Brokers: 

Brokers will engage with Legacy Marine directly upon instruction from their potential client and will act on behalf of their client when managing the interaction with our yard. 

 

Who gets Represented?

Agents:

Agents represent themselves, and, on a limited basis, Legacy Marine when conducting sales of Legacy Marine products. 

Distributors:

Distributors represent themselves and are regarded as Legacy Marine’s client, while the end client is regarded as the Distributor’s client. 

Brokers:

Brokers generally represent their Client when dealing with Legacy Marine. 

 

Who interacts with the client?

Agents:

Legacy Marine takes over the majority of the contact with the proposed Client after an initial introduction by the Agent. 

Distributors:

Legacy Marine interacts with our Distributor only and the Distributor deals directly with their Clients unless otherwise agreed to.

Brokers:

Brokers are usually authorized to deal directly with our yard by their client, however Legacy Marine may have some interaction with the Client as required.

 

Ownership of Goods

Agents:

Ownership transfers directly from Legacy Marine to the Client.

Distributors:

Ownership transfers from Legacy Marine to the Distributor.

Brokers:

Ownership transfers directly from Legacy Marine to the Client.

 

Revenue Models

Agents:

Agents are paid a commission by Legacy Marine, on successful sales introduced, as a percentage of the sales revenue and is described further under "AGENTS INFORMATION" below.

Distributors:

Distributors purchase products at discounted OEM costs for resale at prices guided by our Recommended Retail Price. More detail on the discounts and applicable conditions are described further under "DISTRIBUTOR INFORMATION" below. 

Brokers:

Brokers are paid their fees by their Client. Brokers may also be paid fees for referring non client specific works to our yard.

LEGACY MARINE AUTHORISED AGENTS – MORE INFORMATION

 

What do I need to become an authorised Agent?

  • An established business presence in the specific territory and/or industry.
  • A proven track record in the marketing and selling of marine products within that territory and/or industry.
  • An established network of marine customers and a sound understanding of their needs.
  • Capability to qualify potential sales opportunities.
  • A signed Authorised Agent Agreement with Legacy Marine.
  • Capability to display appropriate marketing materials and attend to promotional activities.

 

Does an Agent need to hold stock?

  • No, an Agent is not required to hold stock.
  • Should an Agent wish to hold stock - kindly refer to the Distributor options.

 

How does the Agent’s Commission Revenue Model work?

  • An authorised Legacy Marine Agent receives a commission directly from the Legacy Marine factory on new business introduced which has been paid for in full by the end client.
  • Agents receive a commission based on a percentage of the ex-works sales price of our standard vessels. Unless otherwise agreed the sale price on which the commission is based will exclude OEM equipment fitted and any other non-vessel related charges.
  • Agent Commissions offered to Legacy Marine authorised Agents may vary, depending on the vessel selection. The percentage commission for standard builds may vary by Agent, and will be agreed upon when signing the Agents Agreement.
  • Agent Commissions on non-standard builds (Special builds) are agreed to on a project by project basis. 

 

Will an Agent be allocated any Exclusivity?

  • Agents are generally not allocated an exclusive territory or industry unless specifically agreed to in writing.
  • Legacy Marine retains the right to offer agencies to other interested parties and appointed agents are advised that the arrangement is deemed non-exclusive, unless otherwise agreed to.
  • Agents may not market or sell our products in an Exclusive Distributors appointed territory without their consent.
  • Should an Exclusive Distributor be appointed to cover the area in which the agent is located, then in that event, the Exclusive Distributor will take over the relationship with the Agent.

 

How do enquiries and potential leads work?

  • All vessel enquiries received from an Agent are dealt with by Legacy Marine who will engage with the Client directly.
  • Legacy Marine will either elect to fit the hull with propulsion systems, various equipment and accessories prior to sale, or nominate one of their exclusive distributors to do so.
  • Legacy Marine may elect not to follow up on certain leads or enquires brought by the Agent due to various reasons. In such cases the Agent will be informed of the decision accordingly. 

 

Will the Agent be provided with Sales and Marketing Material?

  • Agents are provided with reasonable and adequate electronic Sales and Marketing materials and will be listed as an official Agent on Legacy Marine’s media platforms.
  • Brochures and spec sheets of each vessel are supplied in hard copy and are also available electronically off our various websites.

LEGACY MARINE EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTORS – MORE INFORMATION

 

What do I need to become an Exclusive Distributor?

  • An established business infrastructure or presence in specific territories and/or industries.
  • A proven track record in marketing and selling marine products within that territory and/or industry.
  • An established network of marine customers and a sound understanding of their needs.
  • Capability to qualify potential sales opportunities.
  • Capability to display appropriate marketing materials and attend to promotional activities
  • A retail premises with floor space to display our products.
  • Purchase start-up showroom stock.
  • A signed Exclusive Distributor’s Agreement with Legacy Marine. 

 

Does an Exclusive Distributor need to purchase stock?

  • Yes, the purchase of stock is compulsory to achieve Exclusivity status – refer to "How Does the Distributor Exclusivity work"?

 

Will Legacy Marine offer Consignment Stock?

  • Consignment stock is not usually offered by Legacy Marine.
  • Consignment stock for Exclusive Distributors will be considered and assessed on merit, and items such as transport costs and insurance costs will need to be discussed between the parties.

 

How does the Exclusive Distributor’s Revenue Model work?

  • Exclusive Distributors receive an agreed discount off the Legacy Marine Recommended Retail Price (RRP) for our Standard Vessel Range. The discount structure will be agreed upon based on the proposed offtake volume by the Exclusive Distributor and recorded in the signed Agreement.
  • For Legacy Marine non-standard builds (special builds), the discount structure is determined on a project by project basis and agreed to in writing.

 

How does the Distributor’s Exclusivity work?

  • To achieve exclusive status for a specified period the Exclusive Distributor would be required to maintain a minimum stock holding value, which will be agreed upon based on the anticipated sales projections.
  • Exclusive Distributors may not market or sell any other aluminium vessel brands not supplied by Legacy Marine unless agreed to in writing.
  • The extent of the Exclusivity is assessed on a case by case basis and items such as existing client bases, proposed routes to market, service and spares capacities, territorial applications as well as industry applications will be taken into consideration.
  • Exclusivity can take various forms and can be allocated by using a combination of elements such as territory, industry, application of the vessels and specific ranges of vessels.
  • Once a Distributor is allocated Exclusivity, all sales which fall within the elements of their Exclusivity are referred to that Distributor directly.
  • Should an Exclusive Distributor be appointed to cover the area in which a Legacy Marine Agent is located, then in that event, the Exclusive Distributor will take over the relationship with the Agent.

 

How does Client interaction and pricing work?

  • An Exclusive Distributor is regarded as a client of Legacy Marine and as such Legacy Marine will deal with the Distributor as its primary point of communication and sale.
  • The Distributor then re-sells to its client on its own terms.
  • To avoid disproportionate pricing of the products, Legacy Marine issues a Recommenced Retail Price List to guide the Distributor in their pricing of our vessels for resale.

 

Will the Exclusive Distributor be provided with Sales and Marketing Material and Marketing Assistance?

  • Exclusive Distributors are provided with reasonable Sale and Marketing materials and are listed as an official Exclusive Distributor on Legacy Marine’s media platforms.
  • Brochures and spec sheets of each vessel are supplied in hard copy and are also available electronically off our various websites.
  • Exclusive Distributors are also eligible for possible Store Branding assistance, which will be evaluated upon request.
  • Legacy Marine is always open to suggestions to increase awareness and visibility of its products and, upon request from an Exclusive Distributor, Legacy Marine will evaluate the feasibility of joint advertising, events, sponsorships and trade show assistance. 

 

LEGACY MARINE NON-EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTORS – MORE INFORMATION

 

What do I need to become a Non-Exclusive Distributor?

  • An established business presence in your specific country and/or industries.
  • A proven track record in the marketing and selling of marine products within a specific country and/or industry.
  • An established network of marine customers and an understanding of their needs.
  • Capacity to display marketing material.
  • A retail premises with floor space to display a boat will be preferential.
  • A signed Non-Exclusive Distributor’s Agreement with Legacy Marine. 

 

Does a Non-Exclusive Distributor need to purchase stock?

  • No, the Non-Exclusive Distributor does not need to purchase stock.

 

Will Legacy Marine offer Consignment Stock?

  • Consignment stock is not offered by Legacy Marine to Non-Exclusive Distributors.

 

How does the Non-Exclusive Distributor’s Revenue Model work?

  • Non- Exclusive Distributors will receive an agreed discount off the Legacy Marine Recommended Retail Price (RRP) for our Standard Vessel Range. The discount structure will be agreed upon based on the proposed offtake volume by the Non- Exclusive Distributor and recorded in the signed Agreement.

  • Non-Exclusive Distributors unfortunately do not enjoy any Exclusivity rights.
  • Legacy Marine retains the right to offer opportunities to other interested parties in any area in which a Non-Exclusive Distributors is located unless otherwise agreed to.
  • Non-Exclusive Distributors may not market or sell our products in an Exclusive Distributors appointed territory without their consent.
  • Should an Exclusive Distributor be appointed to cover the area in which the Non-Exclusive distributor is located, then in that event, the Exclusive Distributor will take over the relationship with the Non-Exclusive Distributor.
  • The Non-Exclusive Distributor may sell aluminium boats from other boat yards and are not restricted to selling only Legacy Marine products. 

 

How does Client interaction and pricing work?

  • A Non-Exclusive Distributor is regarded as a client of Legacy Marine and as such Legacy Marine will deal with the Distributor as it’s point of communication and sale.
  • The Distributor then re-sells to its client on its own terms.
  • To avoid disproportionate pricing of the product, Legacy Marine issues a Recommenced Retail Price List to guide the Distributor in their pricing of our vessels for resale.

 

Will the Non-Exclusive Distributor be provided with Sales and Marketing Material?

  • Non-Exclusive Distributors are provided with reasonable Sale and Marketing materials and are listed as an official Non-Exclusive Distributor on Legacy Marine’s media platforms.
  • Brochures and spec sheets of each vessel are supplied in hard copy and are also available electronically off our various websites.

 

GENERAL AND PRODUCT INFORMATION

 

How long has Legacy Marine been in the Marine Industry?

  • The Legacy Marine Group commenced operations in 2004 and has designed manufactured and sold in excess of 550 vessels during this period.

 

Does Legacy Marine only offer Aluminium vessels and if so, why?

Yes – Legacy Marine only offers Aluminium Vessels.

After extensive research and due consideration to the various conditions in which our vessels operate, we decided that Aluminium would be the only material that we would use for constructing our vessels based on the following:

  • Aluminium has a higher strength to weight ratio than most other vessel building materials.
  • Weight savings convert into reduced fuel consumption, maintenance cost and draft.
  • Aluminium vessels will survive impacts which many others vessels would not.
  • Aluminium vessels are easy to repair.
  • These vessels are not made from moulds and can be customised to suit our client’s needs.
  • Maintenance requirements on aluminium hulls are lower than on wooden, steel or even GRP hulls.
  • Aluminium is ideally suited to the harsh environments in which our client’s vessels operate.
  • Clients are ensured of a longer service life cycle for their vessel.

 

Does Legacy Marine offer rebates on volume/ bulk sales?

  • Legacy Marine will certainly consider rebates on volume and bulk sales which will be determined on an ad hoc basis, based on quantities proposed.

 

What Product range is covered by the various sales options?

  • All vessels within our product portfolio and indicated on the various websites are available for on- selling.
  • The terms will vary for Special Builds (non-standard builds). 
  • Legacy Marine does however reserve the right to discontinue the sale of any product without incurring any liability.

 

Are Legacy Marine products covered by a warranty?

  • All of the Legacy Marine manufactured hulls carry a 1-year structural warranty and all ancillary equipment is backed by direct OEM warranties offered by our Suppliers which generally carry a 1-year warranty from date of acquisition.
  • These warranties are covered in our Standard T-Craft and Legacy Marine warranty statements which are available upon request.

 

Does Legacy Marine supply product training?

  • Product training and information packs are supplied to each newly appointed Distributor or Agent with ongoing training being supplied to the whole Legacy Marine distribution family on all new product and technology developments.
  • We also offer Campus manufacturing training programs for Clients and Distributor Employees.
